Divine Providence Province (INC)

India Central Province • Patron: Divine Providence

On March 25, 1992, on the feast of the Annunciation, the foundation for the Province of Divine Providence (India Central) was laid in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The roots of the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) in Central India trace back over nine decades of selfless dedication, prayer, and apostolic zeal.

Pioneering Presence & Growth

The mission began in 1933 when the first pioneering sisters arrived in Central India. In 1951, St. Raphael’s Convent in Indore was built, becoming the first established SSpS convent in India after 18 years of heroic pioneering mission.

Joining hands with the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), the SSpS stepped into the Nimar region on April 1, 1940, establishing St. Mary’s Convent in Khandwa. The sisters dedicated themselves to the socio-economic empowerment of marginalized Dalit and tribal communities, opening Rashmi Bhawan—a home of care for orphans and underprivileged children.

As the mission flourished, new communities and ministries blossomed across Madhya Pradesh and neighboring regions: Pavitra Atma Ashram in Aulia (1964) with St. Luke's Hospital, Harsh Vihar in Alirajpur (1993) reaching the tribal heartlands of Jhabua, Holy Spirit Convent in Khandwa (2004), Deepalaya Convent in Bicholi Mardana (2014), and expanding to Jhadol in Rajasthan.
