About the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit
Founded in 1889 by Saint Arnold Janssen, Blessed Maria Helena Stollenwerk, and Blessed Josepha Stenmanns.
Our Congregation & Charism
The Mission Congregation of the Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) is an international Catholic religious congregation founded in Steyl, Netherlands. Dedicated to the Holy Spirit, we are called to be an expression of the Triune God’s compassionate love for the world.
In India, our mission began in the early 20th century, pioneering compassionate healthcare, leprosy care, tribal education, and women’s empowerment. As the mission grew, India was organized into four distinct provinces: Central (INC), East (INE), North (INN), and South (INS).

Co-Foundress (1852–1903)Mother Josepha served with profound practical charity, maternal care, and steadfast faith in the Holy Spirit.

First SVD Missionary (1852–1908)Pioneer missionary to China who lived the motto: "The language that all people understand is love."
